Origin of music Part 2

We learnt about how music started in the previous article. Now let us continue the journey to see how it progressed. After the basic notes were discovered, ‘Madrigals’ a popular form of vocal music came about. Soon Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi added musical accompaniment to this form of singing and the first opera was born. The baroque era in the late 1600s supported composers and musicians and many accomplished musicians like Vivaldi, Handel and Bach composed exquisite pieces that we still listen to today.

More composers like Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn composed their music and there many more new concertos, sonatas and symphonies that were born. In the romantic era in the 1800s, music compositions became more emotional and poetically personal. Some of the best known composers of this era are Berlioz, Chopin, Brahms, Liszt and Strauss. Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff incorporated their country’s music in their scores.
